The Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate is effectively an energy label which was adopted into Irish law as Regulation in 2006 as part of the EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings.

From the 1st of January 2009 a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate will be compulsory for all homes being sold or rented.
